In 2001, a group of friends founded "Sartè n'Allegria", an association which is responsible for running the Sartène carnival. This festival has its roots in the traditions of the region; the town's archives contain records dating back to the 1930s which demonstrate the locals love of festivals and costumes.
Thanks to the association's hard work, this festival is now one of the region's permanent cultural fixtures and a must-see event increasing in both size and popularity every year.
