A veritable miniature continent, Corsica is a mosaic of natural landscapes that are as varied as they are contrasting.
With high-altitude lakes bordered with pines, fine sandy creeks with crystal-clear waters, porphyry-red or chalk-white cliffs, granite canyons and impenetrable maquis [scrub], in Corsica it is possible to “see the world” in just a few miles… Corsica is the greenest, best-preserved, best-irrigated, most mountainous and most varied of the Mediterranean islands; the Ancient Greeks had already found a name that summed it up: Kallisté, “the most beautiful”.
A few places not to be missed:
• The Calanche de Piana and the Réserve Naturelle de Scandola [Scandola Nature Reserve] (a UNESCO World Heritage Site)
• The Archipel des Sanguinaires [Sanguinaires Islands]
• The Aiguilles de Bavella [Bavella Needles] (Alta Rocca)
• Bonifacio
• The Baie de Calvi [Calvi Bay]
• The Vallée de la Restonica [Restonica Valley] (central Corsica)
• The small fishing village of Centuri (Cap Corse)
• The Baie de Campomoro [Campomoro Bay] and its Genoese tower (Valinco)
• The vast beaches of the east coast, bordered with pine forests.
