An old Greek colony, Cargèse celebrates Easter in its Orthodox church, following its own ritual conducted by the Archimandrite. Songs and lamentations in an unlit church on the evening of Good Friday: candlelight ceremonies for the return of light on Easter Saturday, Greek Orthodox ritual chanting at midnight are the expression of the mystical atmosphere which impregnates these ceremonies. On Easter Monday there is a procession during which a Greek colony Sainte Icone is shown to all four points of the compass.
