CARGESE
Remarkable Towns and Villages
Cargèse - Ouest Corse
Cargèse is a picturesque fishing port and marina.
Its history is marked by the arrival of a Greek colony in the 17th century.
Thanks to the influence of this colony, the village has two complementary religions, with two churches facing each other - one Roman Catholic, the other Greek Orthodox.
This village is a pleasant seaside resort with a maritime flavour and Mediterranean atmosphere.
There are five beaches in the commune of Cargèse. To the south (heading up to Cargèse), are Confina, which has a UCPA (National Association of Outdoor Pursuits) centre; Porto Monaghi, where the Greeks who founded Paomia landed in 1676; and the beach of Menasina. The Pero and Chiuni beaches are located to the north heading away from Cargèse; the latter is 7km from the village and is home to a Club Méditerranée holiday centre.
