The hamlets of Bastelica nestle on the slopes of Monte Renoso amid a landscape of high mountain pasture dotted with sweet chestnut trees. Situated at an altitude of 850m, this is the highest village in the Prunelli valley. With its lively atmosphere and authentic local feel, the village attracts nature lovers and ski enthusiasts thanks to the renowned snowfields of the Ese plateau. Bastelica is also famous for its excellent charcuterie.

Bastelica is also the birthplace of Sampiero Corso, ""the most Corsican of Corsicans"", who was a mercenary condottiere of Henri II and Catherine di Medici. It is said that Corso's tragic love affair with the beautiful Vannina d'Ornano inspired Shakespeare's famous play "Othello or the Moor of Venice".
