Make the Chambres d’hôtes 1er Consul in the village of Bocognano your home from home, amid the stunning natural surroundings of the Haute Vallée de la Gravona (Upper Gravona Valley), just 30 minutes from Ajaccio. Various activities are available to guests staying here in the autumn, such as excursions to local landmark the ‘bride’s veil’ waterfall, mountain hiking, climbing and canyonning in the nearby Richiusa gorges.
Well worth a visit in the Haute Vallée de la Gravona is the ‘Mulinu di l'orsu’, an old chestnut flour mill, any of the pretty villages with their winding alleys just waiting to be explored, and the ‘ Palazzu di Bucugnà’, Napaleon Bonaparte’s palace built on his request in Bocognano at the end of the 18th century, which explores the history of the emperor and the village of his ancestors. Visitors can also enjoy a trip into the forest aboard the Corsican train once called the ‘trinichellu’.
Bocognano, with its numerous inns and restaurants, is a great place to indulge in the many regional specialties on offer, including cannelloni with Brocciu cheese, cold cuts, cheeses from local farms, vegetables fresh from the garden, and delicious meat grilled over a wood fire.
