pened to the public at Christmas, “the Aldilonda” is a 450-metre long walkway that winds beneath the Citadel and above the waves, while looking out onto the Islands of Elba and Capraia. It’s been a huge hit, not only with the people of Bastia but with Corsicans more generally, who have spread its image far and wide on their social media. The vast amount of work that went into this original and ambitious creation, built between sky and sea with the aim of reconnecting Bastia with its coastline, began around two years ago. Conjured up by two young architects, the Aldilonda winds above the sea, from the entrance to the Bastia tunnel to the bottom of the lift taking people up to the Mantinum Space in the heart of the Citadel. And the new promenade, made of stones and rust-coloured iron, delights anglers, walkers and cyclists of all ages and from all walks of life.
You can join the Aldilonda at the end of the “spassighjata”, which runs alongside the sea from Arinella beach to the entrance of the tunnel, from the Old Port, or from the Citadel’s gunpowder store.
To sum up, this is an unmissable salty stroll to do as a family, a couple or on your own!
