For those visitors who do not bring their own vehicle or who are not on a group tour, a car is essential for exploring Corsica’s rural landscapes and cultural treasures. Even for those who have opted for a city break or inclusive package will find that they are likely to get itchy feet and want to get out and about to tour the island.
A number of car rental companies offer a high-quality and varied fleet of vehicles which can be hired at airports as well as in the island’s main tourist resorts during the summer months. Numerous taxis are also available for passengers arriving at airports for transfers to hotels and tourist sites. Make sure you don’t underestimate the distance (on foot) between certain types of accommodation (e.g. tourist residences which don’t always have their own restaurant) and areas with shops and other facilities for tourists. If in doubt, it’s best to follow the advice give in tour operators’ brochures, which in the majority of cases will indicate whether a car is needed.
