Ajaccio, Corsica: Home of the Bonapartes

1769-2019: This year, Corsica –and particularly Ajaccio- will be celebrating the 250th birthday of Napoleon Bonaparte and the Journées Napoléoniennes (Napoleonic Celebrations) this year will be very special. So, there is no better time to (re) discover the house where the Emperor of the French was born: the Maison Bonaparte. Do not miss the Fesch Museum, that shelters European paintings from the XIVth to XIX Centuries -the second collection of primitive Italian paintings to Musée du Louvre- located just next to the Imperial Chapel, where the Bonaparte family is buried.

Then, the lively streets of the old town will reveal their secrets in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and Ajaccio is ideally, centrally located on the west coast to allow you discover the jewels in your reach, a few kilometers off the town and enjoy the outstanding diversity of the island: magnificent beaches in the bay of Sagone, the red-granit coastline of the bay of Porto, Filitosa pre-historical site, or villages in either Gravona or Prunelli valleys…..

So why not take this milestone opportunity for a trip to the island of beauty, of which Napoleon could recognize the vegetation scents, miles away from the coastline?....
