Along the paths to the villages of Balagne

The villages of Balagne are once again accessible thanks to a network of footpaths that have been restored by the community of communes of Ile-Rousse. These ancient routes have been sign-posted in order to help visitors discover this rural heritage site more easily.

The Piève d'Aregno loop is one of these walking routes. It can be completed in 3h 30min and stretches for 9.5km with a climb of 500m. This walk takes visitors past four villages and offers a magnificent view of the sea. There is a departure point at each of the villages. Setting out from the hamlet of Croce in Lavatoggio, you stroll along beside the brook, joining the path that leads from the Convent of Marcasso that has always been home to the Franciscan order. After 700m, you arrive at the Bagno path. The route leads you to the Mulinu stream and then up towards the village of Aregno with its church of La Trinité. Walk alongside the cemetery on a path that climbs towards Praoli, the D413 and San'Antonino. You will discover the Reginu plain, San Cesariu and Cateri before arriving once more at your departure point.

The plus
The Ile-Rousse and Calvi tourist offices sell guides to the sign-posted routes.   www.patrirando.com
