SCANDOLA NATURE RESERVE, BETWEEN EARTH AND SEA
The Scandola nature reserve between Calvi and Porto is a paradise for divers, home to an incredible diversity of fish and other marine animals. This biodiversity is dominated by a red porphyry rock massif, a curtain of cliffs creating a stunning visual contrast with the blue of the Mediterranean.
THE CALANQUES OF PIANA, A DREAM OF STONES
On the west coast of the island, the Piana calanques are formed of high, rugged cliffs to admire while following the coast road’s hairpin bends. With its hidden corners, faults, chasms, caves and rocky peaks, enjoy observing numerous birds here, including ospreys.
THE AIGUILLES DE BAVELLA, A GIGANTIC ROCKY WALL
To the north-west of Porto-Vecchio, the Aiguilles de Bavella – 1,899 meters high – look like an enormous wall of stone ‘needles’. Many natural slides and jumps are waiting for you here if you like canyoning. You can also bathe in granite basins filled with emerald-green water.
THE LAVEZZI ISLANDS, A HAVEN OF PEACE
The archipelago located off Bonifacio is composed of six islets of 200 hectares: the Lavezzi islands, with beaches of fine sand and crystal-clear water that continues to attract tourists and boaters. Access the islands by boat or kayak and observe the fish along the underwater trail with a mask and snorkel.
THE GULF OF GIROLATA AND ITS SMALL PICTURESQUE VILLAGE
Nestled between Cap Senino and the peninsula of Scandola, the Gulf of Girolata is a site lined with cliffs covered with maquis and small coves best accessed by boat. The small village of Girolata and the promontory with Genoese tower offers a splendid panorama over the entire gulf. It’s been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983.
NATURE IS QUEEN IN THE DESERT DES AGRIATES
The Agriates ‘desert’ is dominated by nature, with valleys covered with maquis and rocky outcrops. It’s a wild landscape between the village of Saint-Florent and the rest of the Balagne, home to some of the island’s most beautiful beaches such as Salecia, Lodu and Ostriconi.
THE COSCIONE POZZINES, AN OASIS AT THE HEART OF THE MOUNTAINS
Situated over 1,500 metres above sea level, the pozzines of the plateau of Coscione in the Alta Rocca constitute a landscape out of the ordinary. With green and spongy lawns, it’s a paradise for horses, cows and boar that roam freely.
THE NATURAL SWIMMING POOLS OF THE CASCADE DES ANGLAIS
The Cascade des Anglais is a popular swimming spot, reached by a beautiful hike from the Vizzanova pass, climbing among the rocks and in the shade of the pine and beech forests. On arrival, you can enjoy the succession of waterfalls and natural pools. A real escape!
SANTA GIULIA BAY, A PICTURE-POSTCARD LANDSCAPE
The bay of Santa Giulia in southern Corsica is well known for its beautiful white sand beach and its clear blue sea. It’s a real picture-postcard landscape punctuated with huts and diving clubs, not to mention the famous wooden pontoon crossing the bay. For the calmest experiences, plan to swim here off season.
