I took my little cousin for the walk near the Biguglia pond – it’s perfect for children as well as adults to observing the varied wildlife.
It is a rare area in the Mediterranean for its biodiversity because many migratory birds use it as a staging place, especially for nesting. There are over 250 species of birds here, so it’s an incomparable place for those with an ornithological interest.
On the water are flamingos and great cormorants,
in the reed beds are kingfishers, bunting reeds, and tits...
..on the mudflats are many migratory birds including seagulls and terns, plus many great waders – if you’re lucky, you may catch a glimpse of the white-headed duck, a small diver !
