1. When’s the best time to visit the island?

Visitors should choose their time of year according to the type of holiday they want and their individual requirements. In terms of weather, it’s only from mid-November to early March that there will be any significant rain, and this can vary from one region to the next. As Corsica is "a mountain in the sea" temperatures vary considerably depending on the altitude. In general, even in winter Corsica enjoys fine sunny days when the temperature rises to 16°C on the coast.

Bastia and Ajaccio, the island’s two main towns, are lively and bustling all year round and are suitable for a relaxing winter break, which could include trips inland and an opportunity to enjoy typical Corsican cuisine in some of the island’s excellent traditional restaurants.

For winter sports enthusiasts, Corsica offers some challenging cross-country skiing routes which follow part of the famous GR20 long-distance footpath, as well as small family resorts where adults and children alike can share the joys of skiing and snowshoe treks. Hiking by the sea is possible all year round along the numerous footpaths that skirt the Corsican coast.

From the beginning of the Easter holidays the island’s coastal resorts come to life with the first  festivals  of the year. This is also a great time of year for outdoor pursuits, with a range of activities on offer both inland and on the coast, including white-water sports, and hiking through the flower-decked maquis and the stunning, unspoilt natural landscapes of the island’s interior.

During the summer, the busiest period of the year, Corsica offers a complete range of holiday options along with the guarantee of glorious weather, enabling visitors to make the most of their stay. Because of the pleasant sea breeze, temperatures on the island are never excessively hot.

Autumn is an extremely pleasant season in which to explore the island. The majority of hotels and shops are still open at this time of year and the locals have more time to dedicate to visitors. In addition, the sea retains its summer warmth. Autumn is a perfect time for couples, friends and groups to visit Corsica.
