Since the first event held in 1997 this international event has enjoyed real success and the Corsican Open has since become one of the most prestigious international chess tournaments. In 2004 in association with the ECHEC CLUB AJACCIO it was decided to organise a Corsican circuit with prize money totalling ?175,000 and comprising two tournaments (one in Ajaccio Palais des Congrès and the other in Bastia in the municipal theatre). In all there are some 500 players from 40 countries, including many of the leading players in the world.
Fin dalla sua prima edizione nel 1997, questa manifestazione ha avuto un grande successo; con l'istituzione degli Open della Corsica è diventato uno dei più prestigiosi tornei internazionali di scacchi. Nel 2004, in collaborazione con L'ECHEC CLUB AJACCIEN, è stato deciso di organizzare una grande evento sportivo in Corsica e di istituire un premio di 175.000 €. La gara è suddivisa in 3 tornei ( uno ad Ajaccio al Palazzo di Congressi, uno a Bastia al Teatro municipale ed uno a Venaco). In totale circa 500 giocatori, l'élite mondiale, proveniente da 40 paesi.
