Cargèse est un pittoresque port de pêche et de plaisance.
Son histoire fût marquée par l'installation d'une colonie grecque au XVIIe siècle.
De ces influences, le village garde deux témoignages religieux complémentaires avec deux églises qui se font face, l'une au rite Latin, l'autre au rite Byzantin.
Ce village est une station balnéaire agréable à l'air marin et à l'ambiance méditerranéenne.
Il y a 5 plages sur la commune de Cargèse. Au sud (en remontant vers Cargèse), la plage de la Confina (lieu d'un centre UCPA), la plage de Porto Monaghi (ou les grecs qui vinrent fonder Paomia débarquèrent en 1676), et la plage de Menasina. Au nord en s'éloignant au nord de Cargèse on trouve la plage du Pero, puis la plage de Chiuni à 7 km du village (lieu du centre de vacances "Club Méditerranée").
