Officially known as the Place De Gaulle, the Place du Diamant owes its name to the diamond-shaped fort which once stood here. The square marks the boundary between the old town and the new districts of the city. Here you can admire a monument to Napoleon and his brothers (1865) designed by Violet-le-Duc and nicknamed the ?Inkstand? because of its shape.
