20144 Sainte-Lucie-de-Porto-Vecchio
Wheelchair friendly : Yes
The Tower of Fautea, perched some thirty metres high, overlooks two beaches. To the north, it offers a spectacular view of the eastern coastline and dominates the first beach, which boasts a restaurant, campsite and water sports activities. To the south, a second, more natural beach marks the start of a hike along the customs path, which winds its way along the coast to Lavu Santu beach - a 900m long stretch of sand (extending southwards to the mouth of the Cavu). Nicknamed "the Americans' beach", it was the site of NATO military exercises.
These beaches are perfect for snorkelling, but Lavu Santu, with its steep seabed, is not recommended for children.
Access: after the village of Sainte-Lucie de Porto-Vecchio, continue on the RT10 towards Bastia. When the Genoese tower appears on the right, park alongside the road, go through the beach access gate and take the path. After a few minutes, the path splits: left for the tower, straight ahead for the first beach. For Lavu Santu, follow the customs path to the right (30-minute walk).
The Fautea site has been protected since 1979 by the Conservatoire du Littoral.
