The Grande Traversée 20 - “A traversata Maiò” , was launched on 5 August at the col de Vergio, the route’s highest point that connects to the GR20. This cycling route will link Bastia to Bonifacio, passing through the Cap Corse and many of the island’s micro-regions.
“The grande traversée 20”, as the cycling route that crosses Corsica from the North to the South of the island in 12 stages, is now an operational tourism product.
No fewer than 12 stages have been planned. Sporting enthusiasts and active athletes will thus have a new way to enjoy Bastia, Centuri, St Florent, Belgodère, Calenzana, Galeria, Porto, Verghjo, Corte, Ghisoni, Zicavo, Zonza and Bonifacio.
And this itinerary will be enriched with variations. A number of direct routes will make it possible to connect existing local circuits with the main ridge.
Moreover, a number of connections with the GR20, king of Europe’s long-distance hiking trails, will be possible as the island is also a hiking haven: three direct connections have been planned in proximity to the GR20; at the Col de Vergio, Calenzana and the Col de Verde. Other connections have also been identified: in Bavella, Capanelle, Asco, Calasima and lastly, in Cozzano.
Experts and novices alike will be satisfied by this route on which the electric bike is making an appearance. Currently only used for local circuits and overwhelmingly supported by certain tourist boards, it will consequently be possible to tour the island by bicycle effortlessly.
Nine charging points have already been set up and private companies will be responsible for completing the offer.
This is an environmentally responsible way to support the development of the grande traversée and a highly enjoyable activity for the less sporty among us!
