Go to Corsica after the summer season and make the most of the Indian summer!

You might think of Corsica as a summer destination only, but it's an island with a lot to offer all year round.

Attractive throughout the four seasons and offering a wide range of activities for everyone, treat yourself to the pleasure of not choosing a particular theme for your holiday because guess what - it's all possible!

In September or during the All-Saints’ holiday, it's a great way to bridge the gap between summer and winter, especially for family holidays. Far from the excessive temperatures and crowds of the peak season, this is the ideal time to discover an in depth intimate and authentic Corsica.

Whether you're looking for a package holiday purchased through a tourism professional or a holiday organised by yourself , there are several options available.

Accommodation: charming or luxury hotels, campsites, bed and breakfasts or unusual accommodation for a more original experience. When it comes to accommodation, there's a huge range to choose from!

A visit to Corsica's main towns is a must.

Each town has its own museum, including the Palais des Gouverneurs in Bastia, the Palais Fesch Fine Arts Museum, the Maison Bonaparte in Ajaccio, the Museum of Prehistory and Archaeology in Sartène, the Museum of Corsica in Corte and the Museum of Prehistory in Levie. For the more erudite, the Isle of Beauty has 4 towns classified as towns of art and history: Ajaccio, Bastia, Bonifacio and Sartène.

  • Head for the interior! Corsica is an island of contrasts, after a few twists and turns (on winding roads, of course), you'll be on your way to the inland’s perched and unusual villages, where you can enjoy great walks and discover the artisan routes or, for those with a sweet tooth, meet the producers on the authentic sensory route.

  • For mountain lovers, the months of October and November are ideal for family-friendly or more sporting outdoor activities.

  • Hiking, in particular with the GR20, the jewel in Corsica's crown. It covers almost 180 kilometres and can be completed in 16 days (approximately one stage per day), with an average of 7 hours' walking per day.

Another option is the paths marked by the Parc Naturel Régional de la Corse (Corsica’s national regional park), Mare a Mare and Mare Monti.

Or more simply, half-day walks, suggestions for which can be found on tourist office websites .

If you're looking for something original, opt for an activity supervised by outdoor professionals : zip-lining, via ferrata. Memories and thrills guaranteed!

  • By bike because Corsica is a cycling destination! Road, mountain bike or electric bikes, depending on your preference.

Corsica is very proud of the GT20 grande traversée, the GR20's little sister by bike! This 12-stage route crosses Corsica from north to south, from Bastia inland to Bonifacio. Around 600 kilometres of inland roads and villages and 9,500 metres of ascent and descent, culminating at an altitude of almost 1,500 metres for a "framework" itinerary on which many variations can be grafted.

Whether for sport or simply for active use on electric assistance, it can be done in 12 stages and at your own pace.

Note: there is a special VTOPO guide offering 40 road bike routes.

  • If you're a nature-lover, you'll love the island's natural beauty, with 4,100 km² of forest and scrub covering more than half of its territory, 120 peaks over 2,000 m in altitude, 7 nature reserves, 30 rivers and 40 mountain lakes - a natural heritage unique in the Mediterranean.

  • With the kids, discover the many parks and gardens with their wild, bucolic feel.

There are also prehistoric sites in Corsica, and it is estimated that the first inhabitants of Corsica came here 8,000 years ago. They have left their mark in the form of archaeological remains at Filitosa , Capula , Cucuruzzu, Aleria and Cauria.

A few suggestions for things to do with the kids:

The Playmobil Naporama museum on the life of Bonaparte in Ajaccio

The A cupulatta turtle park near Ajaccio on a 2.5-hectare natural site, where you can discover the hidden life of turtles.

The King of Aragon's Staircase in Bonifacio: this unusual staircase was, legend says, dug out in one night by the troops of the King of Aragon in 1420.

The Parc de Saleccia , on the seafront at the gateway to Ile Rousse, is an exceptional site with 7 hectares of Corsican and Mediterranean vegetation designed by a landscape gardener.

• But there's more :

Depending on the indulgence of the weather, you can also enjoy the pleasures of the Indian summer by indulging in the joys of swimming on an almost deserted beach of fine sand.

A whole host of activities for children: snorkelling, paddle boarding, sea kayaking, windsurfing, or surfing...

To relax at the end of the day, treat yourself to a dinner at a restaurant located on a fishing port to discover the local gastronomy while admiring the sunset, and don't forget to immortalise the moment!

Are you ready to set off and discover a more authentic Corsica, far from the hustle and bustle of summer? It's a beautiful island, which will be revealed in all its authenticity in autumn, the secret Corsica of the Corsicans.
