Corsica is brimming with exceptional spots for stand-up paddleboarding.
The coastline, naturally sheltered from the Mediterranean’s heavy swells, is ideal for beginners. The Portivechju (Porto-Vecchio) area boasts several bays with calm, crystal-clear waters.
Palombaggia , with its 15 km of coastline, offers a palette of colours amidst umbrella pines, pink porphyry rocks and turquoise sea.
From your board, admire the Cerbicales Islands , a small, sheltered archipelago where crested cormorants, gulls and Tyrrhenian lizards nest.
Meanwhile, Santa Giulia forms a natural lagoon at the foot of a mountain, with shallow waters.
The water sports centre also offers water skiing, flyboarding, scuba diving and tubing.
Piantarella , considered the most active beach in Bunifaziu (Bonifacio), features a small lagoon with myriad shades of blue where the wind plays with the sea. It is the perfect starting point for reaching Piana Island via the sandbank that regularly forms there.

From Bunifaziu (Bonifacio), set off on your paddleboard towards the Lavezzi Islands . This nature reserve, at the heart of the Bouches de Bunifaziu (Bonifacio) International Marine Park, welcomes you to a maze of granite rocks with unusual shapes.
Countless colourful fish accompany you as you paddle through water of exceptional clarity. The panorama takes in the southern Corsican coast, the limestone cliffs of Bunifaziu (Bonifacio) and the Sardinian coastline all at once.

The western coast and Cap Corse require greater experience and a good level of fitness. The Calanche di Piana (Piana Gorges) and the Scandola Nature Reserve , both UNESCO sites, feature red volcanic formations plunging steeply into the sea.
The mistral, a powerful wind blowing down from the Rhône Valley, regularly stirs up the sea along these coasts. It is attracting more and more SUP surfers to the western beaches. About a 30-minute drive south of Ajacciu (Ajaccio), Ruppione Bay offers ideal conditions for beginners keen to try their hand at paddle surfing or SUP foiling.

For a change of scenery, explore Lake Tolla , situated at an altitude of 552 metres near Ajacciu (Ajaccio). This 5 km² artificial lake, surrounded by walnut and chestnut trees, offers a chance to swim in freshwater amidst a soothing silence.
Saleccia Beach , accessible by shuttle from San Fiurenzu (Saint-Florent) (a 20-minute crossing), stretches for over a kilometre of immaculate white sand. Chosen as the location for the D-Day scenes in the 1961 film ‘The Longest Day’, it retains its wild, unspoilt appearance.
Cupabia , in the Gulf of Valinco, offers crystal-clear waters bordered by fine sand. This beach, popular with windsurfers, also serves as a starting point for marked trails through the Corsican Regional Nature Park. Ideal for a day combining paddleboarding and walking!
Set off early in the morning, before 10 am, when the sea is still as smooth as glass and there is no wind. Check the local weather forecast the day before and on the day of your paddleboarding trip.
You must wear a leash attached to your ankle. Gusts of wind and currents are unpredictable. On beaches, please respect the authorised areas marked by flags.
Users of inflatable or rigid SUPs over 3.50 metres in length must remain within 300 metres of the shore. Beyond this limit, a life jacket, waterproof phone, light signalling system and towing device are mandatory.
Gliding across the waters of Corsica, paddle in hand, reveals a different side to the island. Far from the hustle and bustle of the beaches, stand-up paddleboarding allows you to admire the cliffs, explore sea caves and catch a glimpse of fish in their natural habitat.
