Sentier de randonnée des îles sanguinaires en Corse Sentier de randonnée des îles sanguinaires en Corse
With 1,000 kilometers of coastline, Corsica is a paradise for hiking and relaxation enthusiasts. On this unspoiled island, wild scrubland crisscrosses the coastline, offering revitalizing walks. The sea air, the scent of wormwood, and the calm of isolated coves create an environment conducive to rejuvenation. Thanks to the work of the Conservatoire du Littoral, these natural sites remain accessible while being protected. Discover five coastal trails where nature and well-being come together.

The Bunifaziu trails: between sky and sea

Bunifaziu  (Bonifacio) has only 3,204 year-round residents and covers an area of 138 km². This low population density allows it to preserve its exceptional natural spaces. The Campu Rumanilu  trail starts near the Saint-Roch chapel with a paved staircase carved into the limestone. On the vertiginous path, you can watch seagulls perform their aerial ballet above the mouths of Bunifaziu. The sea breeze carries the scent of iodine and rosemary. These scents stimulate your senses while the panorama soothes your mind.

The  Strada Vecia   was once a road connecting Sartè (Sartène) and Bunifaziu. The old road, lined with slabs polished by time, reveals traces of human activity: dry stone walls and traditional ovens. These remains bear witness to a pastoral life that has now disappeared. The circuit then takes you to the Madonetta lighthouse and the  Fazzio beach . Further on, the beach of Paragan  reveals its fine sand, ideal for a contemplative break facing the horizon.

The Bruzzi trail: the work of the wind

At Pianottuli è Caldareddu (Pianottoli-Caldarello), the Bruzzi trail forms a loop hike of about two hours with no significant elevation gain. This protected site offers a variety of environments where the wind plays the role of sculptor. The trail begins under cork oaks covered with asphodel flowers in spring. It then opens onto a rugged rocky coastline where the maquis, shaped by the sea winds, forms regular massifs.

Venus Beach takes its name from a rock emerging from the water, evoking the ancient goddess. A little further on, Coral Beach owes its name to the red foraminifera that attach themselves to the underwater rocks. These features add a cultural dimension to the walk.

The walk offers views as far as the Bruzzi Islands and Sardinia. The breeze and the murmur of the waves accompany your steps, transforming this simple walk into active meditation in often total calm.

The mouth of the Fangu: Biosphere Reserve

The Fangu Valley is an exceptional site where less than 20 kilometers separate the summit of Paglia Orba (2,525 meters above sea level) from the Mediterranean Sea. The Fangu Valley is a biosphere reserve. The trail along the mouth of the river takes you through a delta where the river meanders wildly in its final kilometers. Riciniccia beach, dominated by the  Genoese tower of Galeria  , marks the entrance to this contrasting world.

Following the meanders, you enter a forest of black alders. It is home to the osmund fern, the navelwort, and the sharp-leaved sedge. The rich fauna of this site is unique in Corsica. There are more than 16 species of bats, 7 amphibians, and 9 reptiles.

The route leads to the Ponte e Cinque Arcate (bridge of five arches). The historic bridge marks the point where underground waters resurface, creating a green lung near the coast. This geological feature makes the site ideal for conscious breathing and relaxation.

The Revellata peninsula: a viewpoint overlooking infinity

At the gateway to Calvi, the  tip of Revellata  juts out into the sea for 2.5 kilometers. The rocky promontory has two faces: sheer cliffs rising a hundred meters on the western side and a gentler slope to the east.

The old customs trail has recently been redeveloped to make it easier to explore the peninsula. Viewpoints offer exceptional panoramic views of the bay of Calvi  and the open sea. They are the perfect place to stop and contemplate the scenery.

In spring, the site takes on the appearance of a rock garden. Armeria soleirolii, a small endemic flower with delicate white and pale pink bouquets, dots the rocky slopes of the peninsula with touches of color.

The presence of ospreys, which have found refuge here thanks to artificial nests installed in 1990, adds a wild dimension to the hike. The immensity of the sea visible on all sides promotes a feeling of freedom that is conducive to letting go.

The Tamaricciu beach: Mediterranean gentleness

Between  Portivechju (Porto-Vecchio) and   Bunifaziu   (Bonifacio), Tamaricciu is a little Mediterranean paradise. A white sandy beach surrounded by red porphyry rocks stretches out beneath majestic umbrella pines.

An hour-long loop is enough to explore the Punta Di Columbara. The trail passes through dense scrubland that has been recolonized by vegetation since the 1991 fire. White-flowered rockroses grow alongside large-fruited junipers.

The dunes, which rise up to 12 meters high, are held in place by pine trees and Phoenician junipers. They overlook a small wetland surrounded by tamarisk trees. This contrast between dry and wet environments creates a diversity of landscapes that awakens the senses.

Preserving these havens of peace

Check the weather before you set off and prepare your equipment. A hat, water and suitable footwear are essential. It is best to visit in the early morning or late afternoon to enjoy the soft light and avoid the heat. Follow the instructions of the Conservatoire du Littoral: no camping, no fires, take your rubbish with you.

As you walk along the white cliffs of Bonifacio or in the cool shade of the alder trees in Fangu, your body relaxes and your mind calms down. These protected sites, preserved from urbanization, are true sanctuaries where a calm atmosphere reigns, conducive to serenity and rejuvenation.
