The medicinal use of the plants and flowers of the maquis is an ancestral tradition in Corsica.

The diversity and specificity of the preserved island flora offers a wide range of species distilled for their essential oils: immortelle (murza), myrtle (morta), rosemary (rosumarinu), laricio pine (lariciu), dwarf juniper (astratella), pistachio lentiscus (listincu), fennel (finochju), sea fennel (baschichja)...

This horticultural richness, and expert knowledge of each plant’s growth cycle and harvest through to its distillation into essential oil, offers a guarantee of unique quality.

In order to perpetuate this natural resource, harvesting is regulated in Corsica. It is organised according to specifications which define both the frequency and optimum harvest time, the particular part to pick and the quantities to leave for plant reproduction. Citrus essential oils widen the range of the aromatic and medicinal plants – they are extracted from the zest (such as clementine essential oil) or leaves (‘petit grain de clementine’).

It should be noted that all Corsican essential oils are labeled ‘Organic Agriculture’.

Essential oils are used in aromatherapy, pharmacy, cosmetics, perfumes and sometimes in the kitchen. The water used for distillation is free of any treatment, and the ‘floral waters’ from the extraction of Corsican essential oils also benefit from optimal quality and complete the range of products.
