My creations entirely reflect where I live– they have the same colours and character. The minerals and the sea arepresent throughout.

Being self-taught, I have allowed myselfall forms of expression: assembled sculptures, mixed media, photography,writing and ‘land art’.

WHATDOES LIFE LOOK LIKE IN A SMALL VILLAGE LIKE NONZA?

Life in Nonza is as sweet as it’s hard.Like many places in Corsica, we experience the harshness of winter but also theabundance of summer.

This sets up a specific way of life wherepleasure and the desire for calmness (between residents and faced with theelements) meets everyday necessities and economic realities, which force us tocome out of hibernation and prepare for the flow of tourists – to which,admittedly, we’re not always well suited, either mentally and structurally!

Things happily follow a rhythm here, movingaccording to the seasons.

WHYDOES CORSICA INSPIRE YOU?

Because it’s an island. It confronts uswith two attitudes: the risk of withdrawal into the secure matrix and the needto be reborn. It speaks of feminine and maternal power, in all that iswonderful and terrifying. It’s for everyone to find out how to get out of thisprotective ‘belly’ and become a free man or woman.

I’ve definitely found the inspiration formy work here!

HOWWOULD YOU SUM UP CAP CORSE IN A FEW WORDS?

It’s a land of climatic and geographicalcontrasts. It’s a place of strength and energy that I hope will remain unspoiltfor a long time to come. Violent winds and storms are followed by indescribablecalm.

Cap Corse has two faces: the ‘smoother’east coast, more human and landscaped, where roads crisscross the seaside andthe sunrises are beautiful; and the darker west coast, more austere and wild,still overlooking the sea, whose vertiginous cliffs you can navigate via lotsof small harbours, and witness some magical sunsets.

YOU LIVE ON CAP CORSE ALL YEAR ROUND – WHATARE YOUR MUST-SEE RECOMMENDATIONS?

The area is great for walking in and out ofseason. Personally, I like the route from Nonza to Olmeta and Olcani – but Ialso love the customs trail to Macinaggio in winter for the variety of itsrocks and the clarity of its landscape. I should also mention the famous SenecaTower which offers a 360-degree view of both sides of Cap Corse.

And to quench your thirst for localknowledge, I can only recommend Nonza’s lovely guide, Eve, who offers a wholeprogramme of themed hikes on her website.

I wouldn’t want to reduce Cap Corse to afew places that everyone quotes. For me, anywhere around Nonza has another-worldly charm and it should be explored slowly, day by day.
