Spas, baths and thermal springs in Corsica: six exceptional destinations for your well-being New

Between the sea and the mountains, Corsica invites you to discover a thermal heritage that is unique in France. These places of relaxation, known since Roman times, now offer an experience dedicated to relaxation and pampering. With 60°C springs, renovated ancient thermal baths and thalassotherapy centres, the island offers havens of serenity tailored to your needs.

1. Les Bains de Caldane: a thousand-year-old spring near Santa Lucia di Tallà (Sainte-Lucie-de-Tallano)

A natural spring, the water at Les Bains de Caldane   flows at 38°C. Slightly sulphurous, it contains 0.206 grams per litre of mineral salts and trace elements: iron, bicarbonate, silica, magnesium and sodium. Its biochemical composition makes it a natural remedy for skin, bone and respiratory tract conditions.

Enjoy a soothing view of the surrounding nature from the private terrace of one of the centre's accommodations. The establishment has even created its own range of cosmetics, in which thermal water accounts for 60 to 80% of the formulations. Rediscover the scents of Corsica in soaps, body creams, thermal mists, facial scrubs and face masks.

 Practical information:

  •  Access to the baths from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. (no booking required): £7 per adult, £3 per child (aged 2-8).
  •  Recommended duration of the bath: 20 minutes per day.
  • Facilities: Finnish sauna, gym, outdoor jacuzzi, mini golf.

Did you know?

Hot springs emerge from the ancient granite at temperatures ranging from 30 to 60°C. The Castagniccia region has more than 20 cold springs (12-16°C).

Eight major springs have been exploited over the centuries. Some attracted up to 3,000 spa visitors a year in the 19th century. The therapeutic properties of these mineral-rich waters are recognised for the treatment of rheumatism, skin conditions and inflammation.

 2. Les Bains de Taccana: the rebirth of a thermal gem

After 18 years of inactivity, the old spa resort between Aiacciu ( Ajaccio ) and Prupià ( Propriano ) will be brought back to life in spring 2024. Covering 400 m² on the banks of the river, the new owners, Vanessa and Sébastien, have preserved the authenticity of the site. They have deliberately limited the number of visitors to ensure your peace and quiet.

The establishment offers three distinct areas: an outdoor bath with a fountain, two renovated Genoese baths indoors and a vaporarium. It uses natural sulphur waters. A massage room, a snack bar and deckchairs on the lawn complete the services offered by Les Bains de Taccana.  For naturists, it is possible to book dedicated slots.

Practical information:

  • High season: Tuesday-Sunday (10 a.m. to 7 p.m.).
  • Low season (September-May): Friday-Saturday-Sunday (11 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
  • Limited capacity: 6-8 people outdoors, 10-12 indoors.

3. Les Thermes de Pietrapola: therapeutic excellence at an altitude of 120 metres

Pietrapola-les-Bains is the only thermal spa approved by the French social security system in Corsica. Its hyperthermal waters, at a temperature of 55°C, emerge less than 15 km from the white sandy beaches of the eastern plain.

The history of the site dates back to the Roman conquest of Alalia in 259 BC. Now owned by the Collectivité de Corse , the establishment offers approved rheumatology treatments and a thermal spa (U Spaziu) for day treatments.

Practical information:

4. Les Bains de Baracci: luxury and history in Ulmetu – Olmeto

Overlooking the Gulf of Valincu, the Baracci Baths   continue a thermal tradition dating back to Roman times. They were renovated in 2014. The former baths hotel, built in 1881, replicates a house in Saigon, bearing witness to the golden age of Corsican thermalism.

The sulphurous waters, at a temperature of 37°C, are renowned for their dermatological and rheumatic properties and feed the modern facilities in a lush green setting. The shop sells organic cosmetics made from Corsican plants such as myrtle and nepita.

Practical information:

  • Facilities: indoor and outdoor thermal pools, jacuzzi, hammam.
  • Treatments: hydromassage baths, affusion showers, hot stone massages.

Les Bains de Caldanelle , Roman baths that were once separated for men and women, are nestled in the heart of an olive and aromatic herb farm. The sulphurous water, at 34°C and regularly checked by the health authorities, offers the ideal temperature in all seasons.

The visit begins with a 3 km walk down a shaded path. After your bath, a 100% local aperitif awaits you: Corsican wines (red, white or rosé), charcuterie, sheep's cheese, fresh bread and seasonal fruit. The return journey is by 4x4, with a 360° tour of the farm.
