The maquis in all its forms ... Welcome to Saleccia Park!

At the gateway to the Balagne region, enjoy a cultural, aromatic and beautiful walk

In L'Ile Rousse in Balagne, the 7-hectare Saleccia Park is a classified ‘Remarkable Garden’. Opened to the public in 2005, it is a place of relaxation and discovery. It’s ideal for nature lovers and culture vultures alike and brings together a varied range of flora: indigenous Corsican plants as well as those from South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and California ... it’s a visit around the world - through plants!

The first surprise you when you arrive at the Park of Saleccia are the rich aromas and colours of the maquis: depending on the season you’ll see ‘immortelle’ AKA the curry plant, myrtle, olive trees, cypresses, oleanders and the fragrant plant known as ‘witches' claws’. The diversity of materials in the garden creates a feast for the senses: dry stone walls, ponds, rocks sculptures... and an incredible view over the Mediterranean! The blue of the sea contrasts with the green of the vegetation to create a visual feast.

Among the walks offered within the Park:

  • The Paths of the Maquis

Discover the traditions of the arbutus tree, myrtle, immortelle ... After this, the maquis will hold no more secrets from you.

  • The Mediterranean Area

The vibrant colours and scents of the south are represented by plants that thrive in Mediterranean climates, like a shoreline, they create a soothing edge around the lawn in the heart of the park.

  • The Paths of the Olive Tree

Voyage around the Mediterranean through the emblematic tree of the Balagne. With more than 100 varieties from 15 countries on display.

  • The Romantic Trail

Heritage roses are fed by the sparkling water flowing between shade and sun (they flower in spring).

  • The Valley of the Oleanders

These shrubs entwine Like a plant ballet, with shades from white to intense red.

  • The Wild Trail

The jewel of the park, here in the shade of holm oaks and olive trees, the trail provides breath-taking views over the sea and the old terraces.

  • The Garden of the Four Colors

The latest creation! The stone architecture depicts the atmosphere of the secret courtyards of our villages in a symphony of fountains.

In June, a rich and varied programme is presented: Creative workshops for children, guided walks, discovery of the Romanesque churches of Corsica, outdoor yoga ... and many other surprises!
