Known as a « Mountainous island basking under the Mediterranean sun », the island of Corsica is a unique combination of preserved coastlines and beaches, with dramatic heights, vast green forests and rocky canyons. Being so diverse and preserved, no wonder the island is a real paradise for those who love activities in great outdoors, hikers particularly! Being not only an island but also a mountain, Corsica is one of Europe’s walking hot spots!
Known as one of the most challenging and spectacular hiking routes in Europe, the G.R. 20 remains the experience of a lifetime and one of Corsica’s landmarks! From Calenzana (inland from Calvi) to Conca (north from Porto Vecchio) the G.R. 20 trail streches its 15 stages along rocky ridges, green highlands, glacier lakes and vast forests, offering breathtaking 360° views over the island, along a real adventure-walk. The experience of about 2 weeks, for an experienced walker, offers possibilities to spend overnights in mountain refuges.
Among the main walking trails, other less requiring tracks such as Mare a Mare or Tra Mare e Monti; they are preferred by walkers who are more into the discovery of the land and its people, as these trails lead you across inland villages – and by the way provide other accommodation in Gîtes d’Etape and / or hotels- and allow you to discover the local heritage and traditions.
