The citron is a mythical fruit, used as an antidote in ancient times.
This ancestor of citrus fruits, the fruit of the citron tree, Citrus medica, was introduced into the Mediterranean basin by Alexander the Great. Until the Middle Ages, it remained the only representative of the Citrus genus in the Mediterranean basin.
The citron, a Corsican variety, made the fortune of Cap Corse in the 19th century.
In 2008, Xavier Calizi decided to recultivate his family's land in Barrettali, the village where he was born.
He planted several hectares of citron trees and began the long and delicate process of transforming the citron.
Xavier quickly discovered a passion for the amazing history of this fruit, a passion and knowledge that he will share with you during organised visits to his farm.
