Presentation

Launched in 1993, the Rencontres de la Bande-Dessinée et de l'Illustration - BD à Bastia (Comic Strip and Illustration Encounters) is a four-day event held every year in early spring, devoted to emerging talents, the great classics, established authors and illustration for young people.
The next BD à Bastia will be held from 26 to 29 March 2026.

Far removed from the format of a commercial show, and the hunt for signings and awards, BD À BASTIA cultivates its difference, retaining the flavour of its encounters and favouring the richness of its exhibitions. The beauty of the original drawing is shown in its flashes as well as its accidents. The story is chosen for what it embodies in terms of commitment. These different aspects come together during the event, to prove again and again the power of the imagination.

Passing on the message is one of BD À BASTIA's great successes: for more than thirty years now, school classes from Bastia and the whole of Corsica have been coming to meet the authors, see the exhibitions, try out the workshops and, in the process, create lovely childhood memories that will bring the youngest children back to the festival and comics when they grow up.

Once again, this year's festival will resonate throughout the city of Bastia, thanks to strong partnerships with the Musée de Bastia, the Arsenale, the Alb'Oru cultural centre, the Médiathèque Centru Cità, the Galerie Noir et Blanc and the Le Régent and Le Studio cinemas.

A dozen exhibitions are on show, and twenty-five authors have been invited to take part in this 33rd edition. Among them will be many Finnish artists, as BD À BASTIA will be the first stage of SARJAKUVA, the 2026 Season of Finnish Comics.

On the children's side, we'll have the pleasure and honour of welcoming back Rebecca Dautremer, in particular for the show Une Chose formidable presented at the Alb'Oru, and Isabelle Chatelard for a major solo exhibition, to mark the release of the album Le grand, le très grand tour de manège co-written with Hubert Ben Kemoun. An exhibition and workshops will also be organised around the "infinite book" by Cécile Carer and Claire Cecchini, created by the Médiathèque de Folelli - Casa Corsa di i Scrivani and the centre de créations pour l'enfance de Tinqueux.

Another exhibition with a particular link to the region is Les Sourires du vin, an album by Matthias Bourdelier and Yann Diolo, based on the podcast of the same name produced in partnership with the Vins de Corse.

BD À BASTIA now has the honour of welcoming children who are also authors, as during the festival they present an exhibition of work produced under the guidance of Audrey Spiry, painter, author and illustrator, in the exceptional setting of the Musée de Bastia. This is part of the "A New Adventure at the Museum" educational residency supported by the Cité Éducative de Bastia. Two exhibitions will showcase Audrey Spiry's work: a painting and comic strip exhibition at the Museum and an exhibition of her children's books at the Alb'Oru.

Also at the Alb'Oru, the public will be able to enjoy a moment of suspension: the show Î d'iles, a sensory and poetic journey based on the music of Ferdinand Doumerc and the paintings of Audrey Spiry. Finally, an exhibition will be devoted to Detroit Roma, a teenage road trip across the United States, the latest masterly album by Elene Usdin. Elene Usdin will be designing the 2026 poster for BD À BASTIA.

Meeting the authors, guided tours, workshops, screenings and shows will be at the heart of the event once again this year.
