Presentation

Since 2006, Arte-Mare has been working in partnership with the town of Bastia (Cultural Affairs, School Affairs, Communications), the CTC, the municipal library and the Giocante de Casabianca secondary school to organise a festival of history and historical fiction books, Histoire(s) en Mai. May is a lovely month, and not just for the poppies that bloom on the embankments. May is a historical month.

Storia di Maghju, quo vadis?

"In Rome, do as the Romans do". This quote refers to Saint Augustine's journey to Rome. The expression is attributed to Ambrose of Milan, the patron saint of bees and beekeepers. When Augustine asked whether the day of rest should be Saturday, as in Milan, or Sunday, as in Rome, Ambrose replied "si fueris Romae, Romano vivito more; si fueris alibi, vivito sicut ibi", in other words "If you are in Rome, live like the Romans; if you are elsewhere, live like they live there".

Histoire(s) en Mai offers you the chance to live for a few days in Bastia, Biguglia, Venaco, Ajaccio and Porticcio Romano more, with a few anachronisms thrown in for good measure. You can count on our train, "petit train" and walking tours to shake up your certainties, go back in time and discover the past in a surprising way: through gastronomy...

The history of wine and food is a field that is currently undergoing major development, with the ways in which they were consumed opening up a wide range of economic, political, social and even religious fields of investigation. What a journey!
