Bastelica groups its hamlets together on the slopes of Monte Renoso, in a landscape of mountain pastures dotted with chestnut trees. Situated at an altitude of 850m, it is the highest village in the Prunelli valley. Bastelica has remained alive and kicking with authentic local life, and is now a magnet for nature lovers and skiers thanks to the renowned snowfields of the Ese plateau. Bastelica is also renowned for the excellence of its charcuterie. Last but not least, Bastelica is the birthplace of Sampiero Corso, "the most Corsican of Corsicans", a condottiere in the pay of Francis I and then Henry II. It is said that his tragic love affair with the beautiful Vannina d'Ornano inspired William Shakespeare to write his famous play "Othello or the Moor of Venice".
Don't miss the statue of Sampiero Corso, listed in 2008, as well as the town's built heritage: fountains, bread ovens, the church, etc.
