In the late 17C and early 18C, Notre Dame du Mont Carmel chapel was given to the Greek colony of Paomia (an old village near Cargèse) who, threatened by shepherds from Vico, had taken refuge in Ajaccio. For this reason, the chapel is still known as the Greek chapel (Chapelle des Grecs), even though Greek Orthodox services are no longer held here.
