Presentation

Built between 1636 and 1666, the parish church of Terra Vecchia is set back from the old port - Vieux-Port – that it overlooks. Its high Baroque facade settled between two campanile towers stands opposite the Citadel that it almost appears to be provoking. The nave and two aisles have a precious decor combining rare marbles, gold and stucco effects, trompe l'oeil paintings and gold and silver work pieces. The curious Christ (in papier-mâché!) on the high altar dating from the C17th, the sumptuous “bird’s nest” organ tribune from the C18th and the magnificent painted vault from the C19th are further treasures of this church, the largest in Corsica.
