Presentation

The Moulin Mattei, owned by the Conservatoire du Littoral since 2004, offers a vast panorama of the Corsican and Italian coasts from west to east. As if drawn in watercolour, the mountains of the Agriates desert follow one another, with a plunging view over the port of Centuri, followed by the island of Giraglia and finally the Tuscan archipelago.
The statue of Sainte-Dévote, patron saint of Corsica, completes the picture, giving the place an almost sacred character:

The Moulin Mattei is the starting point for a walk offered by the Cap Corse Community of Municipalities, Les bergeries face à la mer (18 themed walks, Cap Corse unknown):

The mill is located in the commune of Ersa. To get there, follow the D80 and park in a dirt car park overlooked by the building with its predominant wings. After a 10-minute walk along a path starting from the car park, the mill platform offers an exceptional view at an altitude of 365 metres.

A little history:
The L.N. Mattei company:
Founded in the 19th century, Cap Mattei has become one of Corsica's most successful industrial concerns, thanks to the boldness of its founder.
Louis Napoléon Mattei opened his first shop in Bastia in 1872. The sale of cigars, coffee, wine and liqueurs soon gave way to the merchant's original creations. In 1874, he experimented with the distillation of citron, a fruit imported from Asia and grown in Cap Corse. The result was Cédratine, the brand's signature liqueur. In 1875, Amaro was born, a medicinal wine made from cinchona, a shrub whose bark relieves fever. The entrepreneur's crowning achievement came with the creation of the Cap Mattei aperitif wine, made from mistelle Vermentinu grapes from Cap Corse, cinchona and local herbs. In 1932, François Mattei, cousin and son-in-law of L.N. Mattei, bought the "Franceschi" mill, an old windmill that produced flour, to use it to promote the brand.
