20121 Rezza
At the heart of the Cruzzini valley, Rezza is a village that has kept its authenticity. The nature that surrounds it is an integral part of the Regional Natural Park of Corsica. There is also a park information center at the entrance to the village near the water mill and several orientation courses. Composed of thirteen hamlets "U Chicciolu, E Muricce, Nivale, A Casanova, Rezza, Nucichje, E Scale, Gabia, U Rinaghju, Pedicroci, A Scanafaghjaccia, E Piane, A Chjappa", the village takes its name, as it is. often the case in Corsica, of a plant, here, an endemic species of bramble. But this name of Rezza has only been effective since the last century. In fact, in 1921, Dominique Nicoli, then mayor of the municipality of Scanafaghjaccia, received a unique request from the prefectural administration. The prefecture, judging the name of the village too complicated by its spelling and pronunciation, then asked for a name change. Originally from the hamlet of Rezza, the first magistrate naturally proposed this name. And so, by decree of April 23, 1921 published in the official journal of May 12, 1921, Scanafaghjaccia officially became Rezza. For the record: If we venture into the woods of the hamlet of Scanafaghjaccia on Christmas night, we can hear a wonderful sound of bells. According to legend, the bells of the hamlet chapel were once the pride of its inhabitants, so much the bronze that formed them produced a pure sound. But at the time of the Genoese conquest and in the face of the revolt of the villagers, Genoa sent his men to raze the hamlet in retaliation. Alerted to the danger that threatened them, the inhabitants would have hidden their precious bells in the forest where no one ever found them again.
