Presentation

The standing stones of I STANTARI and RINAIU are megalithic monuments of granite menhirs and statues, evidence of the site's occupation by man since the Neolithic. Some of the armed menhir statues are characteristic of the island's primitive art and have contributed to the site's fame. Visitors to the site can also admire the Fontanaccia, the island's best preserved dolmen. It is recommended that visitors to the site also visit the departmental prehistory museum in Sartène, which houses numerous objects uncovered during archaeological digs in the region (the museum is currently closed for renovation). There are more than 900 menhirs in Corsica, found mostly in the south, especially around Sartène.
