Presentation

Built in an amphitheater at an altitude of 747 m on a ridge at the foot of Capu a u Pantanu, Soccia offers an architecture with facades, porches and old ovens of character and typical of the villages in the interior.
At the heart of nature forming a circus that surrounds the small valley of the Izzola, Soccia is a paradise for lovers of green spaces: swimming in the river, canyoning in the Ziocu, Lake Creno, hiking, everything is there. A land conducive to pastoralism, the town has large areas of mountainous pasture contiguous to the Niolu. A road, known to be taken since prehistoric times, once linked Soccia to Corte: the Strada Antica. This important transhumance path crossed the center of Corsica from the mouth of the Liamone and skirted the Tavignanu valley via Pastricciola. On the heritage side, Soccia preserves many chestnut ovens, beautiful sheepfolds, the ruins of an old bridge and its parish church of Saint Mary, with its bell tower with lantern, hides a polychrome wood triptych dating from the 15th century which represents a Virgin Mary 'Child with a cherry in hand surrounded by Saints Marcellu and Petru. The pite having been devastated by the Genoese repression in the Middle Ages, Soccia like many other villages was abandoned for a time. The territory was gradually repopulated and the village we know today was formed around the parish church of Santa Maria (old oratory) dedicated to the Annunciation (A Nunziata) during modern times. For the little story: Very busy in summer, a monumental cross marks the start of the Creno Lake trail, at the top of the village
