Presentation

A few steps from the Moulin Mattei is the statue of Sainte Devote, patron saint of Corsica.
You can admire the port of Centuri below and the island of Giraglia to your right.
A little history...
A young Corsican girl martyred on the island for her faith, Dévote (late 3rd, early 4th century) died without denying it.
The villagers placed her body in a boat, hoping that she would drift to Africa where she would be given a burial, something that the Roman authorities forbade.
However, a miraculous dove came out of the saint's mouth and guided the boat to the Vallon des Gaumates, at the approximate location of the present-day Chapelle Sainte-Dévote (Principality of Monaco).
