Presentation

The Lac de Creno, or Lagu di Crenu in Corsican, is the only wooded lake in Corsica to be surrounded by Laricio pines. The water lilies covering part of the lake were introduced around twenty years ago. Situated in the Deux Sorru region above the village of Orto in the Monte Rotondo massif, the lake lies at an altitude of 1,310m and is only accessible by footpaths. Follow the D70 to Vico, then the D23 to Soccia. Take the road above the village which leads to a car park. The footpath begins at the car park, following the river on the northern slope of Monte Sant Eliseo. Allow around one hour to reach the lake, which covers an area of 2.4ha and is frozen for 3-4 months of the year. With its Laricio pine forests, the area surrounding the lake is stunningly beautiful.
