In the heart of Corte, not far from the town centre, the Restonica Valley – a protected site since 1966 – is accessed via a narrow, winding 16-kilometre road. The RD 623 ends at Les Bergeries de Grotelle.
To balance the protection, development and management of tourist visits to the site, the Municipality of Corte has been leading the ‘Opération Grand Site Restonica’ (OGS) since 2009, when the project was approved by the Higher Commission for Sites and Landscapes.

The Restonica Valley is one of the must-see destinations in Central Corsica.
Here, visitors can discover the sumptuous scenery of the Corsican mountains: the Larici pine forest with its heady scents, the crystal-clear, refreshing waters of the river in summer, the ‘bride’s veil’ near the authentic sheepfolds of Les Grotelle, the Lombarducciu massif, the birdwatchers’ rowan which adds a touch of red to the autumn colours, climbing routes of all lengths for climbing enthusiasts, the summit of Rotondu at an altitude of 2,622 metres, and the lakes of Melu, Capitellu, Goria and Oriente, which offer a wonderful reward for walkers.
From Les Grotelle, you can also reach the famous GR 20 on foot.
