Jean-Paul Quilici, Corsica's leading mountain guide, offers canyoning and hiking services at the foot of the Bavella peaks.
OUR CANYONS
Pulischellu is one of the great canyons descending from the Bavella peaks. More precisely, it is located between Punta Alta (1,857 m) and the Castellucciu peaks (1,765 m).
The lower part of the Pulischellu canyon is great fun. Its river has created remarkable waterfalls, pools and slides.
It is an extraordinary playground for canyoning. This discipline involves descending the river using specific equipment: harnesses, ropes, helmets and neoprene suits.
This sport is practised in a sensational setting. Jumps, abseiling and vertical slides are sure to provide plenty of thrills.
With a length of 400m, it is considered an easy and accessible canyoning descent.
However, professional supervision is essential to prevent accidents and to fully enjoy all the possibilities this descent has to offer.
Practising without knowledge of the river is risky and strongly discouraged. This is especially true as there is no mobile phone reception in Bavella.
For the classic section, allow 20 minutes to walk to the start and then 2 hours to descend to the bridge on the D268 road. It then takes 5 minutes to walk back to the car.
This is undoubtedly the most challenging canyon in Corsica.

Purcaraccia is the second largest canyon descending from the Bavella peaks.
It is the most remarkable!
Originating at 1,899 metres between Punta di u Furnellu and Punta Muvrareccia, the Purcaraccia canyon is much more vertical than its little brother, Pulischellu.
It is characterised by large rock slabs exposed by the river and the verticality of the site.
This is how magnificent waterfalls and aesthetic slides pouring into crystal-clear pools are revealed to our astonished eyes.
It is a remarkable environment, in which canyoning is a privilege.
An open and sunny canyon, it is most welcoming.
For this canyon descent, after a 1.5-hour approach walk, you will descend a series of spectacular slides, each more spectacular than the last, interspersed with abseils and jumps.
Two beautiful 40-metre abseils are on the programme. These involve descending the two largest waterfalls in Purcaraccia.
However, these are easy abseils, suitable for beginners.
After a 2½-hour descent in this aquatic paradise, you will finish with a 35-minute walk back.
The Purcaraccia will continue its course to the Vacca, where it will plunge 2km lower down. Before that, it will have crossed the D268 bridge at an altitude of 490 metres.
From its source to its end point, the Purcaraccia will have travelled for about 5.5 kilometres and overcome numerous obstacles.
It will have benefited from a catchment area of about 6 square kilometres.
Far from the third and last canyon of Bavella... La Vacca.

La Vacca is Bavella's great collector.
It receives all the water from the massif. A catchment area of 20 km².
Suffice to say that La Vacca is very aquatic.
In addition to this, the canyon section of La Vacca is located between two absolutely vertical rocky needles. The Ferriate needles on one side and the Ornucciu needles on the other.
Walking through this narrow passage is absolutely magnificent.
