The Tour de la Haute-Corse by bike is a breathtaking adventure, where every pedal stroke plunges you into the heart of breathtaking mountain scenery and wild coastlines. The winding roads reveal panoramic views of the deep blue sea, contrasting with the lush green mountains. Picturesque little villages offer well-deserved breaks, where you can savour Corsican culture to the full.
This demanding route is a real immersion in the unspoilt nature of the island, combining physical effort with constant amazement. It's a challenge that leaves lasting memories.
YOUR PROGRAMME:
Day 1Bastia-Saint-Florent
Distance: 122 km / D+: 1655 m
Cap Corse offers a magnificent coastal road that allows you to circumnavigate it. The cornice road runs level with the shore, skirting pretty little seaside resorts. On the western slope, the steep coast dominates the shoreline in spectacular fashion, overlooked by Genoese towers and windmills on the crests.
2nd daySaint-Florent-Algajola
Distance: 119 km / D+: 1545 m
The stage begins with a crossing of the Agriates desert, a scorching mass of rocky outcrops and short scrubland. We return to the Giussani, a beautiful green enclave within the regional nature park. Finally, the promontory villages of upper Balagne offer breathtaking panoramic views over the bays of Calvi and Ile Rousse.
Day 3Algajola-Porto
Distance: 105 km / D+: 1715 m
The road takes us to Corsica's rich western coastline. At the Palmarella pass (408m), one of the most beautiful panoramas of our stay awaits us: the Gulf of Girolata and the Scandola nature reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The fauna (fishing eagles, etc.) and flora of this region are exceptional.
4th dayPorto-Corte
Distance: 107 km / D+: 2465 m
Today's route takes in the magnificent Spelunca gorges and the Col de Vergio, Corsica's highest road pass! Discover the sublime Niolu region and its Scala di Santa Regina parade! Before reaching Corte, the historic capital of Corsica!
Day 5Corte-Bastia
Distance: 100 km / D+: 1905 m
Following a route of secondary roads, we return to the Nebbiu region and cross the hinterland dotted with hamlets and sheepfolds. The splendid Romanesque church of San Michele is a must-see.
