From the highest peaks to the Gulf of Porto... A family hiking trip punctuated by swimming breaks.
Between the Mediterranean and Tyrrhenian Seas, the mountains of Corsica offer a huge variety of atmospheres and landscapes. This tour offers you the chance to sample this rich diversity, passing through all the vegetation zones, from the high peaks (alpine and mineral) to the sea of the Gulf of Porto (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). “From the mountains to the sea” will introduce you to mountain villages, crystal-clear rivers (perfect for swimming almost every day!), high-altitude lakes, sheepfolds, the GR 20 hiking trail, chestnut groves, old Genoese bridges, Mediterranean scrubland... enough to leave you with a wealth of memories and scents.
THE PROGRAM
Day 1: Corte - The Tavignanu Gorges
Meet early in the morning at Ajaccio train station. Transfer to Corte. Hiking along the Tavignanu (swimming in summer) and a visit to the historic capital are on the agenda for this first day. Overnight stay in Albertacce, Calacuccia, or Corte.
Duration: 1 to 6 hours of walking, depending on your choice.
Day 2: Niolu – Vergio
On the transhumance trails Departure from Scala di Santa Regina. After a short stretch near the lake, the trail quickly leaves the last houses behind and climbs towards the Verghju Pass (1,477 m), the other gateway to Niolu. The island's highest peaks accompany you throughout the day. Overnight stay in Castel di Vergio.
Duration: 6 hours 15 minutes / Elevation gain: +860 m / Elevation loss: -330 m
Day 3: Vergio – Vergio
Two hikes on the GR 20 to choose from:
- To the north, in the heart of the Paglia Orba volcanic massif, you climb up to the sources of the Golu and enter the world of high mountains. Stop at the sheepfolds and swim under the Radule waterfalls.
- To the south, set off to discover Lake Ninu: nestled in its grassy setting, it is the most beautiful reward a hiker could dream of. Overnight stay in Castel di Vergio.
Duration: 6 hours / Elevation gain: +760m / Elevation loss: -760m
Day 4: Vergio - Evisa The natural pools of Aïtone
This hike takes you to the western slopes of the island. You cross the Verghju pass and descend into the Aïtone valley, famous for its Larici pine forest. You reach the village of Evisa via the Chestnut Tree Trail. Overnight stay in Evisa.
Duration: 3.5 hours / Elevation gain: +190m / Elevation loss: -740m
Day 5: Evisa – Porto The Spelunca Gorges
An old stone path takes you down the Spelunca Gorges to the village of Ota. The mountain vegetation gradually gives way to Mediterranean species. A hike along a balcony above the sea brings you to Porto beach: the symbolic end point of your journey. Overnight stay in Porto.
Duration: 6 hours / Elevation gain: +460m / Elevation loss: -1340m
Day 6: Return to Ajaccio (Must not be a Sunday or public holiday in May-June or September-October as there is no regular bus service)
Return to Ajaccio early in the morning. In summer (July and August only), it is possible to take a morning boat trip to the Scandola Nature Reserve, a UN

SUPERVISION: None
LUGGAGE TRANSPORT: The support team will transport your luggage between accommodations.
Luggage transport: no luggage transport other than the items needed for a day hike.

Level: Easy + - Average stage duration around 5 hours and average elevation gain less than 600m. The trails do not present any particular difficulties but may be degraded or steep over long sections. One or two days may exceed the above criteria.
Terrain: Very varied, trails in forests or scrubland. Some sections of the stage take place at high altitude, where the trails are very steep and rocky but do not present any particular technical difficulties.
