Discover the Mare a Mare Sud trail on a 4-day, self-guided walking holiday. Accommodation in guest houses and hotels, for a beautiful walk rich in natural and cultural heritage.

From Alzu di Gallina, you'll climb through cork oaks to Carbini, offering views of the Gulf of Porto-Vecchio and Sardinia.
A second stage takes you to Levie, the capital of the Alta Rocca. The route continues to the archaeological site of Cucuruzzu and ends in Quenza, with its 11th-century Romanesque chapel.
The route then passes through Serra di Scopamena, with its historic sites, before ending at Sainte-Lucie, famous for its olive oil.
Finally, the route descends through olive groves and forests to Burgo, before transferring to Propriano.

DAY 1
From Alzu di Gallina to Carbini
A taxi will take you to the start of the hike in Alzu di Gallina. The path climbs up through cork oaks to Ospédale, with its lake nestling in the heart of a large forest of laricio pines and beech trees. The village of Ospédale, perched at an altitude of 900 metres, is the highest in southern Corsica. It offers uninterrupted views over the Gulf of Porto-Vecchio and the south of the island. You might even catch a glimpse of Sardinia in the distance. After a long descent, you'll reach Carbini, a very pleasant village with a listed 11th-century church.

DAY 2
From Carbini to Quenza
The trail begins with a descent, passing beneath Monte Rossu to the Fiumiccicoli river. Following a path through undergrowth, you will reach the Salvatica stream before arriving in Levie. Levie is the capital of the Alta Rocca and the Carbini region, and is home to the Alta Rocca Museum. The Mare a Mare will then take you to Castellu di Capula, part of the Cucuruzzu archaeological site. At the end of the stage, you'll reach the village of Quenza, where you can visit its 11th-century Romanesque chapel and church.

DAY 3
From Quenza to Sainte-Lucie de Tallano
Shortly after setting off, you will reach the picturesque hamlet of Ghjallicu in the Codi valley. The route then rises, winding through ancient agricultural terraces nestling beneath the Punta di a Cuciurpula to the village of Serra di Scopamena. You'll discover an old chestnut drying shed 'U siccatoghju', a water mill 'u Fragnu', as well as period vegetable gardens and a traditional wash-house. A descent through ancestral chestnut groves will then take you to the Rizzanese river. The natural pools, nestling in the heart of the lush vegetation, are an irresistible invitation to take a dip. Finally, your journey ends in Sainte-Lucie, a village renowned for its quality olive oil and its olive-growing museum.

DAY 4
From Sainte-Lucie de Tallano to Burgo - Propriano
Leaving Sainte-Lucie, the route descends through a beautiful olive grove and a forest of holm oaks to reach the chapel of St-Jean Baptiste and its 12th-century Romanesque chapel. Cross the Piombatu bridge over the River Rizzanese. You will have to climb towards the Punta d'Arja Vecchia and follow the Cupartella ridge. The village of Fozzano then appears, standing out against the backdrop of the Gulf of Valinco. This village will take you back in time to the story of Colomba, celebrated in Mérimée's novel. The route then plunges into the Baraci valley, famous for its thermal springs and sandy estuary at the head of the Bay of Valinco. Transfer from the hamlet of Burgo to Propriano.

Start
In Porto-Vecchio at 9am. Pick-up at the ferry terminal or your hotel.

End
In Propriano after your transfer from Burgo around 4.30pm.

Access
Porto-Vecchio ferry terminal or Ajaccio or Figari airports. Buses to Ajaccio or Porto-Vecchio are available. Please note that buses do not run on Sundays or public holidays outside July and August. Please contact us for further information.
